C&W2007

Computers & Writing 2007 is wrapping up. I had two great conference experiences yesterday.

First, I took a mid-day trip to the Eastern Market with Riles and Matt. I got back in time to catch Helen Liggett’s fantastic talk, which was largely about urban photography. Super; basically, the talk theorized the experience I’d just had, immersed in the huge array of plants, cultures, food, and people present in the market. (Update 5/27: Pictures from Brendan.)

After Saturday’s sessions and Rich Doyle’s keynote were over, I walked to a restaurant with Byron Hawk, Darren Cambridge, Annette Vee, and a few other folks; we had a great conversation over a few bottles of wine. Quinn Warnick, Kevin Brooks, and Jim Brown joined us later. It’s been said a million times, but these conversations are always the best part of any conference. The CW07 organizers did a great job this year, and though I have a few things to gripe about (of course!) I’m very glad I made the trip to Detroit.

Four rides today—car, plane, el, and train—and I’ll be back in Macomb. I’m ready to sit on the couch with my girls.
