Ubuntu honeymoon hiccup

My love affair with Ubuntu took a step back about a week ago. I tried to upgrade my video card and the kernel at the same time. Not a good idea. I expected to get this done with nifty scripts and GUIs, but found myself back in the land of Xconfigurator or whatever it’s called these days (for debian-based distributions like Ubuntu, dpkg-reconfigure ).

So I went back to the old video card. I’ll wait a few weeks to see what happens with the kernel; apparently there’s some issues with kernel 2.6.20-16 and nvidia drivers.

No other Ubuntu foolishness to report, though fonts still suck.

Has the linux-restricted-drivers package been updated? At any rate, it sounds like Ubuntu fell asleep on the testing job here. I spent about an hour yesterday getting the ATI drivers installed on my brother’s Dell after having reinstalled Windows. I sure am enjoying my Macbook.
