Lapse

A busy month. So, time for a roundup:

No blogging, but I have been running lately, three times or more most every week. Last Sunday I ran the Quad Cities Half Marathon at 1:57 (8:57/mi). Going out my pace was 8:43, so though I didn’t run a negative split, I’m happy with the result. I was only three or four minutes too fast on the front half, and it was my fastest long run in quite a while. Today I ran a 5K in 22:45 (7:20/mi), pushing Madelyn in the stroller. I started a little too fast (split was 7:10/mi) but kept a pretty strong pace anyway. A bit of right hamstring tightness now, but nothing worth writing home about.

Today is the third day of Madelyn’s first extended period (more than 16 hours) apart from her mama. And she’s doing great. Erin left Thursday afternoon to backpack in Zion National Park with one of my colleagues. I’m so glad. I’ve been encouraging her to something similar for quite a while. After the race today, Madelyn got to play with Claire a bit (whose mom Julie was the first woman stroller-pusher over the line) then we went home, switched to bike+stroller, and headed out to see the homecoming parade. We watched it downtown right near the start, then rode across town and watched it again at the end. On the way home, we saw a train. So Madelyn has had a fun Saturday so far.

I won an award. (Almost all the way down.)

I’ve started reading regularly again; a habit I got out of when Madelyn was born. Alex Galloway’s Protocol, which has been on my shelf quite a while, and Nielsen’s Prioritizing Web Usability. Soon this will lead to writing regularly again, which is going to be great. Nothing new–just finishing things I’ve already started–but it has been too long.
