Another rainy June 3
Last night and this morning a pretty strong storm moved through Macomb, dropping about three inches of rain and depositing a nice-sized tree limb in our driveway. Spotters reported 60mph winds. Today was the first day of summer preschool for Madelyn, and to get the Subaru out of the driveway, I had to cut up the limb and drag it out of the way. Thirteen years ago today, when Erin and I were married, we had similar weather. Hurricane Allison was the only guest who crashed our wedding party, soaking our outdoor ceremony (the pictures show huddles of umbrellas and tents) and pushing our reception indoors. We had about thirty or forty people in our 900 square foot house and twenty more outside in our shed and under Ez-Up shelters. My brother and I stretched a tarp between the house and my truck, and we barbecued in the rain. A lot of the guests were soaked. But people still tell me it was the best wedding they’ve ever attended. I couldn’t agree more.

Congratulations on the anniversary. My blog’s reading been compromised by Henry, who demands much of the attention.
Are you sure your house was only 900 sq. ft?

Thanks.
Yep, it was a small place.

S/b “blog reading” up there, I see. Our house is about 1K sq feet bigger than that, but it really doesn’t seem like it. (It actually is of the same vintage as Marcus’s old house, but with an addition.) Leaf-cutter bugs, refugees from three orange trees I’ve chopped down, are attacking my flower beds. They are opportunistic florivores, and the local mockingbirds show little concern.

Leaf-footed bugs, rather. Leptoglossus phllyopus.

Orange trees. Cut ‘em up and get thee a smoker. Orange wood is fine smokin’ wood.
Built a compost pile yet?

We bought a grill the other day, but haven’t yet accepted the smoker challenge. The only wood left from the trees is in stump form, but I might try to save some of that.
We intend to have a compost pile, but haven’t settled on the best location for it yet. I’m intrigued by the turning barrels.

I bought a grill earlier this week.
