It's smaller and lighter than the Macbook (2 lbs vs 5), which makes it much easier to tote around, and it's usable on an airplane. Also, this way my main machine with my data stays at home on my desk. If the mini gets broken or stolen I'm out about $300, vs. $1500 or so for the Macbook. @Michelle: The placement of the ' and ; keys drove me nuts at first. We found out that it's just the power supply, so we can resurrect the G5 for less than $300. That should buy us a little time. I'm now running my Macbook in clamshell mode as my main computer, with a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 running Leopard (installed from legal retail DVD, vanilla kernel plus some Mini-specific drivers, runs great) as my mobile device.
