According to the WIU libraries, the CARLI library system which serves Western and many other libraries in Illinois has just shortened the borrowing period for books to four weeks. That’s right. Four weeks. Faculty can renew books three times for a total of sixteen weeks. But wow, four weeks? I got more time as a graduate student.
I think I’ll be buying a lot more books, doing a lot of renewals, and re-borrowing books after the 16 week period is up. I can’t imagine that the library staff are thrilled about any of that.
