Updated framework
Katie made some good changes to the framework, and Katherine has added some comments to our first thread. I invite everyone to edit it, or to add a comment below with a recommendation.
Two things I want to ask specifically: is everyone OK with the time frame: proposal June 10, draft July 10, final August 10? Also, when should I plan to make my first trip to the QC? After school is out? When is that?
Also, does everyone here know about Google Reader and Google Docs? Both are very handy; the former for keeping track of weblogs and news (so you don’t have to check the site and others 20 times a day), the latter for quick collaborative work. If you have Gmail, it’s easy to get set up with both. I know Katherine and Katie have Gmail accounts; do you, Nan? Should we spend some time as a group working on those things?

Good morning,
First note, we (Katherine and myself) are in school at MHS until June 10th–snow days extended the year. I know you are heading out of town, Bradley, but quite honestly, this is all coming at me way too fast and I really want to have a handle on where we would like this to go. Personally, June 10th is too fast for me to commit, but that is how I feel today. If you all are happy with this forum for discussion, may I suggest giving it through this coming weekend to really nail down what is going to happen? I feel selfish, but with finishing out the school year, finals, and all the year end hooplah with concerts, awards ceremonies, etc., my personal history is that September and May are the craziest months. The texts look good and I will explore sentence construction options. Besides, June 10th is my birthday…….I will respond to a possible calendar after some thought.

Katie,
I understand completely about your time constraints. We don’t have to commit to a meeting schedule right away. My summer is no different from spring or fall at work, so it doesn’t matter so much to me about deadlines–I’ll be just as stressed in July as I am in May. Enjoy your birthday, and then we’ll knuckle down. In the meantime, I’ll try to do my own research in my specific area of interest (writing centers).
P.S. to Bradley–I don’t even know what GMail is!!

I’m quite happy giving you folks more time. On the other end of the calendar, when does the 2008-09 school year start?

@Nan, I’ll send you a Gmail invite. It’s email by Google.

I second Katie’s concerns. Our school year begins somewhere around Aug. 19th, I believe. I’m also quite busy at the moment, which is why I’ve had a hard time blogging here!

Good morning all,
As far as the calendar is concerned:
Last day of school MHS: June 10
First day 08/09: Aug 19
That leaves
6/9-6/13
6/16-6/20 Meeting w/Dilger; submit proposals
6/23-627
6/30-7/3
7/7-7/11 Meeting w/Dilger; 1/2 way point; RD
7/14-7/18
7/21-7/27
7/28-8/1 I would like to finish this week; final product
8/4-8/8
8/11/-8/15 Out of town on family vacation
I know this looks condensed, but given the time frame it appears more manageable for me. I believe for all three of us, this is the only course we are enrolled in. I do know that I will be required to participate in curriculum development throughout the summer, so I do plan on attacking this course as soon as finals are posted. What do you all think?

Summer has to be condensed. That’s part of the deal. I’m a little nervous about finishing 7/28 but we’ll see. And of course no reason folks can’t turn stuff in early…

I know about both Google Docs and Google Reader, and I’ve now ordered two of the three books. Yay! I don’t see how I can realistically start much prior to June 10, but the calendar Katie proposed looks fine. Is the prospectus and the proposal the same thing? Stupid question?

From a coffee shop in Bayfield, WI…
Just get started as soon as you can. I’m sure you’ll have no problem. The Guide is a good first choice because it’s essays, so it lends itself to bits and pieces reading. And again, the dates are guidelines. Even the last one could be flexible, though I want to leave enough time for me to write reviews of your work.
Yeah, they are different. You have to do a proposal for the independent study. I emailed the framework page to Mossman; he replied “Excellent work as usual,” so I think that suffices. If not, we’ll tackle it later.
I’ll want a prospectus for your semester project, modeled on the one you did for 481.
